Take a deep breath and have patience, as Top Gun 2 will debut in theaters only on July 12, 2019. In addition to setting the opening date for the sequel, Paramount Pictures has also determined that Joseph Kosinski - then favorite to direct - will command The long one. This will be the director's second work with Tom Cruise, with whom he has previously worked on science fiction Oblivion (2013).

Scheduled to start filming in early 2018, Top Gun: Maverick (official title) will continue the story begun in Top Gun (1986). Cruise will reprise his role as Maverick, an experienced Air Force pilot who now works as a flight instructor for young people.
Kosinski also signs the production of the film, which screenplay was written by Peter Craig, Justin Marks, Ashley Miller and Zack Stentz. The idea of performing a Top Gun sequel has surfaced for years. Initially it would be directed by Tony Scott, director of the original film, but the filmmaker's suicide in 2012 made the project stand still for a few years.
