Luc Besson's studio decides to invest heavy in action and sci-fi after $ 136 million loss

Valerian and Luc Besson's City of a Thousand Planes carry the weight of being the film that premieres with the mission to make his studio come back to close the year in the green. According to information from the Deadline website, after final balance sheets, EuropaCorp found that it closed its fiscal year, ending at the end of March of this year, with a loss of US $ 136 million.
Some of the films whose poor box-office performance caused financial losses for Besson's film producer and distributor were the comedy Virei a Gato; The terror Hostage of Fear, with Naomi Watts; The drama Weapons on the Table, starring Jessica Chastain; And the suspense The Circle, which brings Emma Watson and Tom Hanks in the cast.
Much of the damage came from the low demand of the American public for the films cited, even those that bring Hollywood actors known in the lead roles.

In the face of the numbers, EuropaCorp will turn its attention to science fiction and action films, like some of the main successes of its catalog, such as The Fifth Element (1997), Lucy (2014) and the Truthful Search trilogy (begun in 2008 ).
In Valerian's space opera, Dane DeHaan and Cara Delevingne interpret two agents who need to identify and neutralize a threat to the city Alpha, which holds species of a thousand planets and is an essential metropolis for the balance of the Universe
